Psychologist Therese Ejerskov

About psychologist Therese Ejerskov

Welcome, my name is Therese Ejerskov. I am a Danish-authorised psychologist and a specialist in psychotherapy with adults. I graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 2007 and have 19 years of experience as a psychologist.

My work focuses on cognitive therapy for anxiety, OCD, depression, stress and low self-esteem. I offer therapy in English as well as Danish, both at my practice in Fredensborg and online.

I began my career at a private cognitive psychology centre in Copenhagen, where I worked for six years. I then spent almost ten years working in psychiatry in Frederiksberg before opening Den Kognitive Diamant.

My practice is based at AYA House, surrounded by the countryside of North Zealand. I also offer supervision for psychologists working towards authorisation or specialist qualifications.

Therapy room at AYA House

Welcome to a safe and supportive therapeutic setting

A helpful course of therapy starts with feeling safe, heard and understood. My work with you is based on trust, respect, empathy, care and openness.

I begin with your situation: what is difficult right now, what you would like help with, and what may be keeping the difficulties going. Together, we agree on goals and a starting point for treatment.

You are an active partner throughout. I use understanding, practical tools and new ways of responding to help you find more calm, perspective and direction in everyday life. Your feedback helps me adapt the work to you.

Books on cognitive behavioural therapy

Why cognitive therapy?

Cognitive therapy, also called cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), explores the links between thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviour. These connections are illustrated by the “cognitive diamond” that gives my practice its name.

I help you identify patterns that keep a difficulty going and practise more helpful ways of thinking and acting. This can involve examining assumptions, trying new responses in everyday situations and working with the rules you have learned to live by.

Sessions are structured and collaborative. Exercises between sessions help you put what we discover into practice. Towards the end of treatment, the focus is on maintaining progress and recognising early signs that you need to use your tools again.

I also draw on metacognitive approaches when worry and rumination play a central role, and schema therapy when deeper, longstanding patterns need attention. The approach is adapted to your needs.

How can I help you?

I work with adults. Treatment starts with your situation and the patterns that keep your difficulties going. Together, we agree on goals and practical steps.

Stress

Understand the patterns, expectations and habits that contribute to stress. I help you calm your stress response and find more sustainable ways to handle demands at work and in your personal life.

Anxiety

Make sense of anxious thoughts and physical sensations, challenge unhelpful interpretations and gradually practise new responses. I work with difficulties such as panic, social anxiety, generalised anxiety and phobias.

OCD

Work with intrusive thoughts and compulsive rituals using cognitive therapy and exposure with response prevention (ERP). The work is planned together and adapted to your pace.

Low self-esteem

Explore self-critical beliefs and the rules you live by. I help you build a more realistic view of yourself and practise new ways of responding to yourself and other people.

Depression

Understand the cycle of negative thoughts, low mood and reduced activity. I work with thinking and behaviour to help you rebuild energy, hope and participation in everyday life.

What happens in therapy?

I start by understanding what has brought you here and what you want to change. During treatment, I work with you on thoughts and behaviour, and you practise tools between sessions. Towards the end, I help you plan how to maintain your progress. The length of treatment depends on your needs and the work we do together.

Online therapy with psychologist Therese Ejerskov

Online therapy in English

Online sessions offer a flexible alternative when you live far from the clinic, are staying abroad or prefer to meet from home. I offer online therapy for anxiety, OCD, stress, depression and low self-esteem, adapted to your needs.

Sessions take place through an encrypted Whereby video connection. You can work with the same therapeutic tools and models as in the clinic.

Joining your appointment

  1. At your appointment time, open my Whereby room.
  2. Allow access to your camera and microphone when prompted.
  3. Choose “Join meeting” and wait for me to let you in.

Practical information

Appointments and waiting list

Most clients get an appointment within 14 days, although the next available booking can sometimes be further away. Cancellations regularly free up earlier appointments.

You can book the next available slot and also ask to join the waiting list. Email therese@denkognitivediamant.dk or call +45 31 66 83 88.

Information about GP referrals

Doctor referral

You do not need a GP referral to book a private session with me. I do not have a provider number under the Danish public reimbursement scheme (“ydernummer”), so I cannot accept a GP referral for publicly subsidised treatment.

A referral requested by a private health insurer is a separate matter: your policy may still cover sessions here. Check the insurer’s approval and free-choice conditions before booking.

Cancellation

Cancellations must be made no later than 24 hours before the agreed time, either through Terapeut booking, by email or SMS. If you cancel late or do not attend, the full fee will be charged, including in case of illness.
If your sessions are covered by insurance, please note that insurance companies typically do not cover late cancellations or missed appointments. You will receive an SMS reminder the day before your appointment with me.

MobilePay payment

Payment

Payment is made by MobilePay at the end of each session.

If your health insurer has approved the full fee, I send the invoice to the insurer. If your policy covers only part of the fee, you pay for the session and claim reimbursement from your insurer yourself.

Sygeforsikringen danmark

Reimbursement from Sygeforsikringen danmark

Members of Sygeforsikringen “danmark” in Group 1, 2, 5 or Group S may qualify for reimbursement. For treatment within referral categories 1–11, “danmark” does not require a prior referral from a doctor and disregards the public scheme’s age requirements. Treatment must take place in Denmark with an authorised psychologist. The following 2026 rates apply to individual sessions, including eligible video sessions:

  • Treatment within referral categories 1–11: without public subsidy, DKK 300 per session (DKK 450 for members aged 16–25); with public subsidy, DKK 200 per session (DKK 300 for members aged 16–25). The combined maximum is DKK 7,200 within 12 months for treatment in these categories, regardless of age.
  • Treatment outside those categories: only members under 26 qualify. The rate is DKK 300 per individual, video or telephone session, with a maximum of DKK 2,400 within 12 months for this category.

For treatment without public subsidy, the psychologist must report the sessions electronically to “danmark”, so please tell me about your membership when you first contact me. See “danmark”’s current rates and conditions for Groups 1, 2 and 5 and for Group S.

Private health insurance

Health insurance and other funding

Private health insurance, an employer scheme or a pension policy may cover all or part of your sessions. The number of sessions and the amount covered depend on your policy.

The key condition is that you are allowed to choose your own psychologist. Ask your insurer whether treatment is covered, whether you can choose me and how many sessions are approved. Please mention insurance when you first contact me and send or bring your approval letter before treatment begins.

Depending on your policy, providers include Danica, PFA, AP Pension, Dansk Sundhedssikring, Topdanmark, Tryg, PenSam, Gjensidige, Nordea Pension, Codan and others.

Tryg: I work with Tryg, but your particular policy must allow you to choose your own psychologist. Confirm your cover with Tryg first.

Falck Healthcare: I do not work with Falck Healthcare.

Your trade union may also offer support, particularly for work-related difficulties. In some cases, your municipality can contribute to treatment costs. Contact the relevant organisation to ask about your options.
